This idea of exporting your own culture and way of life to the unwashed savages is exactly what the Yankees did in Kansas in the late 1850s. They had to make sure it wouldn’t be claimed by the backwards Missourian Southerners.
Their side won the war and achieved hegemony in America, and ever since then, the justification on the public propaganda level for every foreign war we’ve fought has been to liberate somebody from somebody else. That story reached its mythological zenith with Hitler and we’ve been running on the fumes ever since.
Sorry, but I think you guys mixed up the “melting pot” and multiculturalism. The whole “melting pot” concept is for immigrants to keep their heritage but assimilate enough to be part of their new country and community. Multiculturalism makes no demands they change to fit in whatsoever. We’ve had things like Chinatown and Little Italy since before my grandpa was born but we never allowed government paperwork in languages other than English.
