I agree that that the supernatural was inseparable from daily life “back in the day”. But there was definitely a separation from human existence and sacred/supernatural existence (gods, sacred/profane, etc). I’d be interested in takes on how early Christians dealt with the supernatural now taking a seemingly personal interest in human lives and, ultimately, human salvation.
Phisto to help answer your question at around 57:00. What happens to all that wonder and curiosity.
I think part of it has to be how crushing school can be. At a certain point it stops being fun and interesting and starts becoming crushing and stressful. You get to high school and your GPA really starts to matter and you really have to start preparing for tests. A part of it can also be teen age angst. "This is dumb, why do I have to learn this." From what you've been saying, making classes engaging and actually interesting does help crack that barrier.
So the ant-to-human and human-to-God comparison. Great analogy. How do you, personally, square the “This difficult life situation is part of God’s plan for you”. How can the ant now divine the human’s plan?
I can only speak for myself, of course, as that has been my experience on a few occasions. When I thought I was broken, mentally, emotionally and physically, my pleas did not fall on deaf ears. Situations resolve themselves. It may not align with my wishes, but my is faith strengthened, if that makes sense to you?
The ant analogy is a good one, for sure, and one I’ll be stealing for future use.
As for the life situation, and prayers to remove it going unanswered, I put that down to somehow shaping us, our character, strengthening our connection to God. The life situation might remain, but we are not abandoned.
“You can die and the mountains won’t care”

No wrong answer here.

Good, cos I haven’t a clue what I’m talking about!! ;-)
Faith is a thing I don’t personally experience, but I understand it’s importance and trajectory in lives of believers.
Good man. It’s not something I try and force on people. Things can get ugly pretty quickly, especially online. Have a nice peaceful Friday, my friend.

Great conversation lads.
Thank you.
